Welcome to another week.
Social worker and Founder of the Migrants Trust, Margaret Humphreys has told the nation’s Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse that the abuse, lies and cover ups involved in children being sent abroad to other Commonwealth countries during the 1940s-1970s, amounted to human rights violations.
The conduct by government organisations and officials which sparked this comment includes:
- Physical and sexual abuse,
- Conditions of slavery and terror,
- Removal of identities, and;
- Lies that suggested the youngsters’ parents were dead
- Collusion and cover-up by institutions and agencies,
- State sanctioned kidnapping of children
- Children being knowingly placed into the hands of paedophiles
A 2015 debate in the House Of Lords in which Lord Blackheath confirms he and others were involved in several of these government initiatives, also confirms Margaret’s experience through her work helping former child migrants find their biological families.
Our question then, is this: who should be held accountable for these crimes – the government or individuals involved, or perhaps both?

All parties involved in this scandal should be held accountable. no ifs or buts.
it Mirrors what the Nazis did to Jewish men women and children during WW2. not to mention all the others. they just rounded them up like cattle, took their human rights away then murdered them.
“Collusion and cover-up by institutions and agencies,
State sanctioned kidnapping of children”.
this is still going on now.
so i guess we have another scandal still to come. and it needs to happen now.

Most certainly both the individuals (if they’re still alive) and Government should be held to account. And we should not be satisfied with ‘measures have been taken to ensure this never happens again’ or the fatuous ‘lessons have been learned’ – we need to know what measures have been taken, and when were they implemented. I have no doubt whatever that crimes by the Social Services take place now, with similar lies being told, tacitly sanctioned by the Government and by Family Court judges.
This is why we need openness in these Courts despite the objections raised to this, and I personally believe that people going into these Courts should have the option of a Jury to hear their case. They are not usually criminals, but the decisions of these Courts are often far more punitive to individuals than if they were! And often brought by false accusations and hearsay ‘evidence’. We do have to change this scandal, which is indeed happening right now – today and every working day.

Well said Roger.
but does anyone in Govt actually give a damn. the problem here is that the Govt can foresee what the tidal wave would look like if the flood gates were ever allowed to be opened on this massive scandal going on in todays SS and family courts. the compensation payouts could run into Billions so it would seem the Govt would rather just keep dodging this one.

If Nazi criminals can be made to face justice sixty years after committing their crimes, then so should the perpetrators of these heinous crimes against children and their families as long as even one child survives the toll of time, because the crime will live as long as the victim.

The passing of time does not exonerate the perpetrators of these crimes. They must be named and publicly shamed by every means possible. There must be no hiding place – not even the grave.
