A hugely popular petition asking the government to hold a second referendum on Brexit has led to MPs in the House of Commons confirming that a second referendum could be on the cards after a report which highlighted “myths, misinformation and downright lies” present in the previous referendum, was published.
The discussion took place on Monday 5th September, and can be watched on Parliament TV, or read in the transcript.
The debate is well worth a read. During the discussion, politicians raise the possibility of a second referendum, which could be done without undermining democracy as long as the second referendum features new terms.
There was also talk of ensuring that any second Brexit vote should be accompanied by a long referendum campaign so that the public were able to make an informed judgement based on facts.
Some politicians did not want to see a second referendum on leaving the EU but instead look to a referendum on the terms of our departure. The discussions also included a look at a second referendum for Scottish Independence.
It is a very long debate and we have not had a chance to read all of it, but we look forward to your thoughts on the meeting, and we hope you’ve got plenty of tea and Digestives to keep you company.

As far as I am aware during the war Hitler wanted many countries to be part of Germany he lost the war and in came the EU but why did Britain keep the pound and other countries had to change money to the euro, was it because of the big wigs buying and selling the pound and dollar ect, or did Britain know we are only in the EU for a few years so we will keep the pound. But then behind the lines Britain has always planned ahead and never questioned.

The same curency has always been part of the Common Market as was called. As we have acommonwealth there are other countries which then used our pound. I can not remember how much push there was to move over to the euro. Wish I could help more, we will see what happens now.

And thank God we did keep the pound!!
I haven’t read any of the debate about a second referendum, but it sounds to me much like the Irish one when those in power didn’t like the result of their referendum so they held another, and got the ‘right’ result.
Both sides here gave false information – look at Carney’s warnings, it wasn’t just the Brexiteers who exaggerated or lied. Project Fear. . .emergency budget. . .World War III. . . .I really do hope that we will not waste yet more time and money on another referendum but try to work for the general good, accepting the will of the majority who voted. Incidentally, when I was in France last year, everyone I spoke with (admittedly not many because my French is not good) wanted out of the EU; and they wanted the Franc back! Economic co-operation is one thing, but being ruled by some sort of Superstate is another – layer upon layer of expensive and wasteful bureaucracy, riddled with corruption, in reality uncaring of the general population. Same can be true here of course, but at least we can vote them out!
