Regarding domestic abuse; the best thing to support women to escape violence would be not to allow SS to remove children from the victim/survivor because of the abuse suffered. Why do social workers always blame the victim in so many ways? These may include; ‘this woman was stupid enough to get herself into an abusive relationship, she will probably go looking for someone else to abuse her so her children are at risk of future harm’ or ‘this weakling failed to protect her children from someone with twice her strength’ or ‘the abuse made her unhappy, so she is obviously mentally unfit to look after children’ or perhaps most likely of all; ‘She’s just making it all up to alienate the children from their father – he should have them.’ Honestly, if you want to keep your kids, just keep quiet about domestic abuse. At the moment it is not safe to report DV in this country because loosing your children is a million times more agonizing than any beating or abuse. Children are better off with a bruised mother who loves them than taken into the ‘care’ of a series of paid strangers. The greatest danger faced by women trying to flee abuse with their children is social workers.
