Foster Care or being under a Special Guardian Order is not so very different in essence than Forced Adoption if you are prevented from having any contact or any information about your child. The end result is the same.
I appreciate that some mothers may not want contact but the majority do. I believe it’s totally wrong to prevent a relationship between a child & her mother. There is no justification for social workers to arbitrarily stop contact & not give a reason. Social workers don’t just stop mothers but other family members too. There can be nothing more cruel.
The social workers own code of ethics is ignored when it comes to direct contact in Adoptions & letterbox contact is poorly governed. Does it even happen after the initial year? Who supports it to make sure it happens? Even when there is no risk to the child by the parents, direct contact is not even considered & this is the same for other family members, like grandparents, who have never harmed their grandchildren. This practice happens in Foster Care & SGO’s.
We all know of research that shows a lack of contact with their birth family is harmful to the child (& that harm weighs them down as an adult) but still nothing changes. Reviews of social work practice conclude these issues are identified & words of positive change are mouthed & funding is often given but nothing changes. Shame on them.
Yes Dana, and one of the usual excuses given to the court by the SS as to why contact should be denied is that they claim the Child/children dont wish to have contact. judges will take their word for it that they have spoken to the children when this is likely not to be the case. from my experience judges simply dont listen to what the parents have to say, choosing instead to believe the council and the carer.
Ive said it many times before and still believe that if the Police take no action against the parents for supposedly harming or neglecting their children then the SS should not be allowed to take the children into care and should not be allowed to pursue the parents through the courts. this is the huge injustice of the system. its supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. the family courts should not be judging parents it should be a criminal court.
