Why ‘non-recent’ forced adoptions?? When forced adoptions are still carried out in this country? Harriet Harman’s antipathy to men does not help, when so many men were and still are deeply affected and hurt by this often barbaric practice. Let alone the men and women who have lost contact with their children through vindictive ex-partners, encouraged by CAFCASS officials and the bovine acceptance of their decisions by Family Court judges.
Why this inability, this blindness, to accept that this is happening NOW, and the wrong is just as real as it was forty-odd years ago? It beggars belief.
Hi Roger, non recent means forced adoptions that were carried out not in recent times, as opposed to current forced adoptions. News outlets keep using the term ‘historic’ which survivors tend to find dismissive, as the legacy of those actions stay with them throughout their lifetimes.
I agree Roger,
they cant just apoligise for historic forced adoptions but ignore the more recent ones coming right up to date. that would be ludicrous.
I would think the govt will duck and dive out of this apology for as long as possible because they know once they make an apology its also an admission that it was wrong which would then open the door for parents and children to seek compensation. it will also spark court cases for more recent cases to push for compo. but as we have seen with Boris Johnson and his £60K referb on his 10 downing st flat, they dont like to own up to wrongdoing and will slither round the truth at every opportunity. why would they be any different with this.
Apologies are useless gestures except for the legal proceedings that can follow such admissions.When I was a child my father always asked me to apologise for my many childish misdeeds .I always did so and never mean’t any of them ;They were just a formula of words used to placate my dad !
Words are sound waves that soon vanish and are forgotten…….
What they should do is demand the ABOLITION OF FORCED ADOPTION (adoption contested by at least one birth parent )
Failing that they could at least demand that all adoptions be “open” so that birth parents know where their children are going and can still maintain some contact;
