In a word, disappointed. Sadly there appears to be little transparency concerning the choice of the Chair of the review and the process used to appoint him. He has little to no experience in social care.
Problems compounded by the manner in which Experts by Experience group were invited to apply which has led to unfortunate disagreements within this community and could prove to be divisive.
The timescale to complete the review is woefully inadequate if it is to be comprehensive.
There is so much more to say but these are my key impressions thus far.
My initial reaction was to look at this as just another talking shop with no teeth to get things changed.
I find most of these inquiries follow the same pattern. The criterion is too narrow, parents affected are not consulted in depth and social professionals, (I use that description very lightly) are given too much leeway.
The results are dressed in language that is far to technical unless one has the qualifications to dissect them.
Basically what is required is a report that concentrates on the real problems, a report written in language that gets to the basic problems experienced by the parents and their children involved.
None of this mantra jargon “lessons have to be learned” or “we can’t discuss individual cases”. For the latter what is the point, if cases can’t be discussed in detail, for the former, previous lessons have been stated as learned ad infinitum but nothing concrete is done. The system grinds on in a never ending mess of conflicting views, the reports on one side, the parents and children on the other, and never the twain to meet.
Sorry to say, all I see is another waste of time and money, with the children and parents still left suffering in limbo.
The children’s care review will stifle free speech from aggrieved parents. We can’t discuss individual cases ” even keeping names undisclosed .Why not? Nobody knows. We are individuals but we are gagged. How can it be right to take child from a sane law abiding mum,put it in the care of strangers, and then threaten her with jail if she uses her democratic right to complain about the injustice????They won’t talk about that……..
I think the plain truth is that Parents have had enough of these So-called reviews that repeatedly amount to nothing.
its time for a full scale investigation into malpractice and alleged criminal activity within the SS and family courts.
all they need is hard core evidence and thats available in abundance.
