A mother who was forced to give up her child for adoption in the Netherlands is suing the state for emotional damage.
The lawsuit claims that a policy which allowed the state to forcibly remove her child from her care was in breach of Dutch and international law.
Trudy Scheele-Gertsen, who is now 73, is one of over 10,000 women in the Netherlands who gave up their children at birth in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. She was also the first woman to take the Netherlands government to court over the legality of forced adoption at the time the policy was enacted.
The lawsuit cites several procedural irregularities, which it says led to Scheele-Gertsen’s son languishing in care for the first three years of his life.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper, Trouw, yesterday, Ms Scheele-Gertsen said, “What was done to me and my son is disgraceful, that is the main reason I am going to court.’
The legal claim also hopes to shed light on why state institutions promoted the idea that unmarried mothers could not care for their children.
The lawsuit comes as the Netherlands launches its own inquiry into why single mothers gave their children up for adoption.
The Netherlands Association of Separated Mothers told Dutch News that the forced adoption process was riddled with procedural errors, which were either consciously or unconsciously a result of deliberate policy which prejudiced unmarried women.

Unfortunately with the law as it stands now forced adoption is perfectly legal .It should however be reclassified as a crime against humanity and all those who after this has been done still continue, to be actively involved in processing the forced adoptions should be locked up.(social workers,guardians,judges,barristers,and solicitors etc )

Interestingly Ian, the suit also refers to forced adoption legislation. The implication being that the legislation is incompatible with dominant law.

Unfortunately with members of parliment on sex offenders registers then protected by same sick fucked up goverment who hire these perverts to make desicions about other kids and there well being the uk is pretty much fucked unless our so called queen actually forces the pricks she hires to lay down the law to pay for these obvious crimes families will constantly be ask risk from cunts like that

When I received my son’s adoption file in BC, Canada I found three forged and falsified consent documents and evidence that I had been lied to and drugged by hospital staff. These are all criminal code violations and should be treated as such. [edited] police did conduct a six month long investigation in 1999 but the province’s Social Services Department provided a “retired RCMP” officer who testified that the documents were authentic even though they clearly were not and the social worker involved testified that, even though she “couldn’t remember” the case in question, “everything would have been done properly.” Case dismissed.
