I don’t know how they can make a statement that kids are better off in care than if they were left at home. What is that based on? Isn’t there a UK study being done to ask if maltreated children are better off at Home or in Care? The findings I suspect will mirror the research in US. The largest ever study to ask that question! (NCCPR website) The findings were not only were the kids better off at home but better off with little or no intervention from social workers!
Various studies, home & abroad, have found that when kids were in foster care, the kids mental health was much better if placed with family than if placed with stranger foster care. The evidence showed the children had less problems overall if they were in kinship care.
It should be noted they found maltreated children who remained with the birth parents have mental health problems at the same rate as those who were placed in foster care or kinship care. So what was the point of taking the children away? Surely it would be better to work with the family.
The results of taking those children into care speak volumes. It isn’t just low earnings when they are working either. To then say they don’t know why this should be, shows they are do not accept that taking a child into care damages them.
“£3.3 million is being spent to expand 23 local projects to help prevent mental illness in children and young people. ”
Not much use while Social workers, foster carers and special guardians make shure the child wont get access to such help.
