The child welfare stories that should be right on your radar:
- Social Services Can Threaten Families of Children with Chronic Fatigue
- CAFCASS social worker falsely accuses father of abuse, then blames police
- Dozens of CPS caseworkers caught lying, falsifying documents
- Petition asks for mandatory family support before care orders can be made
Many thanks to Charles Pragnell, Nicky Herron and Deborah McMillan for sharing these items with Researching Reform.

‘Why I falsely accused father of abusing daughter’:
This Cafcass worker should have been jailed after causing a £86k payout.
“Dozens of CPS caseworkers caught lying, falsifying documents”
this is a USA case.
“Petition asks for mandatory family support before care orders can be made”
its such a shame these type of petitions get very low numbers signing.

Natasha do you know anything about the HCPC policy.
they have a fitness to practice register that shows all Social workers by name and location of employment.
but i discovered from the HCPC that one Social worker is registered as working in London when in fact she has worked for a Northeast Council for over 2 yrs but they seem to think thats fine.
another Social worker got married in 2016 but is still going by her maiden name on the register.
is this normal or extremely sloppy policy by the HCPC ?

Hi Dr. M there’s a lot on the site about the HCPC (and the register)…. in summary, the HCPC is being replaced by Social Work England (you can search the RR site for SWE as well as we’ve been publishing updates since it was announced). There have been issues with registration. SWE is trying to tackle this at the moment but it’s not clear whether their proposal will be amended to take into account the current loophole that exists with registration (see posts on the site). Here’s a post on SWE’s latest proposal to tackle social work practice gaps: https://www.basw.co.uk/resources/psw-magazine/psw-online/new-standards-proposals-require-social-workers-england-report. I hope that helps.
