The latest child welfare items that should be right on your radar:
- George Pell: Cardinal jailed for child sexual abuse (Australia)
- UN Rapporteur: Iran Has Executed At Least 61 Children Since 2008 (Iran)
- Thousands of teenagers in care living without adults (UK)
I find myself saying “Beggars belief!” a lot when reading about what is done to Children by those in control of them.
Iran…
In Iran, you have to ask why any right thinking government would sanction child executions. It’s clear they don’t value life.
Closer to home, the UK….
We are supposed to treat children better. If more children are being taken from families they should at least be looked after until they come of age. If they cannot sustain the volumn of children taken, they need to revise their criteria & pick the children who are seriously in need, not every child they deal with.
I agree wirh Enver Solomon this is neglect but it goes much further than mere neglect, it’s a betrayal. They took the children away from their, often loving, families & promised to look after them. They failed to look after these children. As Corporate Parents they suck at the best of times but this goes to show how disposable the children are after the Care Proceedings are over & money is made by all those involved. I wonder how many of these children had Contact stopped after Care Proceedings & have no one now.
On the other side of the world…
The abuse committed doesn’t surprise me but it does surprise me that he has been jailed!

Iran.
what can i say.a country based on Islam and the Koran are trying to develop Nuclear weapons and not for the right reasons thats for shure.
a country where Human rights do not exist.the execution of children should shurely spark some kind of tough action by the UN and if needed go into the country to remove its dictatorship and switch it back to pre 1979.

if Pell is actually guilty then he has been lucky not to have got far longer in jail.

Can anyone see the irony of what a quarter (the other three quarters didn’t respond to the FOI) of the LAs are doing? They take children into care because the parents are deemed to be unfit to look after their children but then leave vulnerable teenagers to fend for themselves in unsupervised accommodation like B&Bs, hotels & caravan parks. None of those places are particularly safe to be so young & alone. Was nothing learned from all the abuse scandals which have come to light?
It’s not Social Workers who are between a rock & a hard place but the 3,090 children that have been cited. If we extrapolate the figure based on that quarter it would be 12,000 odd children. Is that the care leavers figures each year? How can they deal with the problem unless they admit how many children are living in these unsafe, unstable, temporary homes. All LAs should have responded.
It’s not just about the budgets that this has happened, you have to dig deeper to get to the root cause. It’s no good spending money dealing with the after effects. No child should be taken into care unless every avenue is explored to keep the child within their own family. If more children were kept with their families this wouldn’t be happening on the scale that it is. The “Corporate Parents” should hang their heads in shame. The Government should never allow this. Would any of these people put their children in a B&B, hotel or caravan park alone? I think not!
