The latest child welfare items that should be right on your radar:
- The startling toll on children who witness domestic violence is just now being understood
- Judges to undergo psychological domestic abuse training
- One of the UK’s youngest-ever female paedophiles has been jailed for sexually abusing children as young as two years old
There is a big difference between physical violence where parents injure each other and Noisy arguments where they shout at each other;Unfortunately the UK family courts make little distinction between the two and in fact take children away from families that were quite happy despite daily shouting matches .After all children have disputes amongst themselves so why expect adults to be any different ?This should be explained to them.
In Latin countries such as Italy,Spain, and Portugal Noisy family disputes are a way of life but the children seem happy enough .In fact the family unit is stronger in these countries where in general old people are cared for by their families rather than discarded into care homes or lonely attics !
Physical disputes involving frequent bruises or broken bones are another matter and no doubt children should be removed when things get serious.Unfortunately social workers often fearful for their own safety prefer to remove children from non violent homes if there are harmlesss noisy arguments as these children are more adoptable being less traumatised or not at all affected.
