Welcome to another week.
Russia’s Supreme Court has approved a bill which will make life sentences mandatory for anyone found guilty of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12.
The bill also features several other ground breaking measures including:
- The removal of any statute of limitations for sex crimes against children, making convictions for those guilty, regardless of when the abuse was committed, inevitable.
- Classifying the sexual harassment of minors perpetrated by people living with them as well as by those in positions of power, as an especially serious crime.
Our question this week then, is just this: should England and Wales introduce a similar bill?

Life sentences for men (or women) of say 40 or 50 years of age who rape a little girl aged 5 or 6 for example seems quite correct
.It is not the same at all if a 19 year old man (for example) meets a 15 year old girl in a disco who claims to be 19 or 20 and looks it and who is fully consenting and maybe even eager for what takes place !
Each case should be dealt with on its merits as circumstances can vary tremendously in each case that comes up..

how amazing life for offenders found guilty of sex with under 12, well well well is this why England wants the law changed so kids from 12 can have sex, its all mapped out long before the laws change and what better then Russia to start it all off.

Broadly yes, but the age-limit is too low. Should be the present age of consent as it is, 16. Some youngsters are fully mature (physically) in their early teens but others are not. And very few are mature emotionally or mentally. I agree with Ian that all cases should be judged independently, and the circumstances taken into account, and maybe should also reflect the age of both participants. But 16 is a good compromise, 12 is not.

I6 is ok providing cases are judged on individual circumstances bearing in mind how many young girls aged 15,14,and even 13 give birth to babies they want to keep !

its a tough one as we are well aware of Malicious false Allegations.
once the door opens to large sums of compensation payouts we will see a flood of Allegations coming in. of course there will be many genuine cases but determining which are genuine will be a daunting task.
Some people will lie if they think theres big money to be made from it. miscarriages of justice are bound to happen and i suspect it will be on the increase for shure. not all False Allegations are about Money.sometimes it comes from pure Envy,Jealousy or Hate.
Life on Planet Earth looks to be entering a dark chapter for the future.
i feel sorry for all the Kids today who will have to live in it.

While we may welcome stiff legislation, we need to be cautious when it comes to blanket laws; there may always be the exception to the rule and extenuating circumstances.
