The Child Rights International Network (CRIN) as just published the first ever piece of research to rank on a global scale how effectively children can use the law to challenge violations of their rights.

This study on children’s access to justice is the first of its kind.

Topping the list is Belgium, followed by Portugal, Spain and then Finland. The United Kingdom comes in at number 18, after Andorra and the Dominican Republic.

Somalia, Palestine and Eritrea sit at the bottom of the list, with Equatorial Guinea in last place at number 197.

Should you have any questions about the report, you can contact the following individuals at CRIN:

For questions about the report in English (elliot@crin.org), Arabic (nasser@crin.org), French (louise@crin.org), Russian (larisa@crin.org) and Spanish (jesica@crin.org).

There is an excellent interactive map, too, and a breakdown of the data for each country, as well as the report in full.

We think this is a fantastic effort, congratulations CRIN!

Alleged victims of Greville Janner have applied to the nation’s Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse to be given Core Participant status within the Inquiry.

The group will attend the first hearing into the Janner strand of the Inquiry, which is scheduled to take place on 9th March, 2016.

Inquiry Chair Justice Goddard will decide whether to give the group Core Participant status. If successful, the group will be able to not only give evidence to the Inquiry, but also review documentation, make legal submissions and suggest questions.

Lord Janner was a Labour politician accused of 22 sexual offences against boys between 1963 and 1988. He died before his trial, which was to be a trial of facts. The trial itself was dropped in January 2016, one month after Janner’s death, and so never took place.
