Welcome to another week.

A recent news item from the BBC tells us that a four year old child has been taken into care after her mother slapped her in the face and then swore at, and pushed a woman who intervened. We don’t know whether the mother intended to assault the child further, or what injuries the slap caused.

The article tells us that under the Children Act 2004 the defence of “reasonable chastisement” in England and Wales for any punishment towards a child that causes bruising, swelling, cuts, grazes or scratches has been removed.

Our question to you then, is just this: do you think this little girl should have been taken into care?

Thank you to the very lovely Tracey McMahon for sharing this news item with us.
