Facebook has just announced that it has set up a new service for Facebook users to alert its UK account holders when a child in the UK goes missing.

The alert will include a description of the child, his or her photo, if available, and any details of suspects and vehicles involved.

Facebook users will be able to click “learn more” and get details of where to pass on news of sightings or potential leads. Clicking “share it” will spread the news to family and friends as well.

The alert system will use a Child Rescue Alert scheme to help share details about missing children.

Facebook has been using a Missing Children alert system in the US for some time, but the UK version has just been launched.
