Martin Narey has been selected to join a new team of Non Executive Board Members at the Ministry of Justice. Narey, who is now a freelance consultant and goes by the company name of Martin Narey Ltd, was once the Chief Executive at Barnardo’s and advised the government on adoption.
This new team’s job at the MOJ will be to advise the government on policy proposals, provide support and strategic direction, and support the development of key performance indicators which will monitor the implementation of the Department’s business plans.
The MOJ also publish the criteria for Board Member status in their statement – apparently, as per the Code of Practice on Corporate Governance (yes, this is about money), the individuals selected should not be civil servants. However, it seems that past roles can include positions with the civil service, as Martin Narey was a civil servant himself prior to 2005.
Other Board Members include Liz Doherty, Lizzie Noel and Theodore Agnew.
It will be interesting to see what this team do for the government, and whether they help to infuse the child welfare sector with much needed support, or continue to deplete it through corporate policies which put children’s lives at risk. Let’s hope Martin remembers his roots.

Funnily enough there are a couple of girls there too, but interesting that Narey worked with Tim Loughton not so long ago (remember Tim, he was Children’s Minister, but was eventually forced out), so yes, it does seem like there is a secondary layer of handouts for the forgotten… 🙂 especially as Martin is flying solo now after years inside the public sector…

“I left the public service in 2005 to lead Barnardo’s through a period of significant growth, making it once again the UK’s biggest chilldren’s charity (8,000 staff, 16,000 volunteers, £250m turnover) and transforming its political and media impact.”
Growth for sure £250 million.

Hi Sabine, it is concerning. Will they make things worse for child welfare? It’s very tempting to say yes, not sure just how savvy this lot are….

That is highly unlikely as those without empathy never change. Sadistic schadenfreude disease is rife among these so called professionals as many of us have witnessed.

yes business plans for adoption.££££
Just remember the Baby Thief and how adoption business was corrupted.
Now we get to see the real truth in words.
Children once registered and with birth cert bonds are worth money.
Children become commodities on registration and those in the law know it.
This is nothing new in British history though as millons of children over the years under patriarchy have been sold as slaves, sent abroad as breeders for the empire etc.
Words like warehousing children and disposable kids would not be used by these so called experts if children were deemed full human beings.
All the proof re damage of adoption was known in 1952 but the money has kept the business going.
So profitable is the child business that we exported to Ireland under failed social worker Gordon Jeyes and we see the results in profit.
Human resources etc are sickening words used to describe human beings.
Of course most in the business do not see the human child only the ££££££ signs.

You say “let’s hope Martin remembers his roots” but I say let’s hope he forgets the way he helped turn Barnardos from a benevolent organisation into an adoption factory intent on promoting the forced adoption from mothers desparate to keep them !
So many millions of £s poured into a heartless babysnatching corporation……….

Hi FA, I hear you. I just hope he remembers the suffering he saw, he must have seen a lot of it. And I hope he doesn’t make things worse.

Sir Martin Narey is a former prison governor and was the first Chief Executive of the National Offender Management Service. He has extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system and, as the former Chief Executive of Barnado’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, he also brings considerable experience from outside the public sector.
Well Mr Narey, if you really want to learn how to do your job then you need to know truth so you can help the abused kids in care, then I suggest you make an appointment with me, as it was I back in 1972 who worked for no pay to bring change for prisoners families and children with many other benefits for change to the prison system this along with setting up the very first children’s nursery in this country for prisoners wives, I have a lot more info of the abuse of the children then you do, also those kids sent to detention centres, so with regards to your extensive knowledge of the criminal system remember I did not learn from a book, as for Barnado.s well better your name with them then my name or even my shadow. All they are for is kids kids kids and wowwe money money money, what was Barnado’s two years ago a turn over of £175 million pounds, so how come you and Barnado’s have not changed the laws and opened the family courts, oh sorry you need more money and more kids,

Thank you Ladyporta,
with all that I have witnessed and know by the research I wish I could help just one child, but no one wants truth, bet a million pounds if I had it, I could find some one in Government and pay them to let me speak on behalf of the poor little kids, bless em, you keep fighting as well as you are a good person.

We can only guess at the billions involved by those making money on the backs of children. Who is profiteering and by how much? If the public knew the true financial figures broken down to who get what and what for, the whole facade of “child protection” would fall like a house of cards! The public would see it for what is is, a money making business! While it continues to make money it will be “cash for kids” as usual. Don’t think for a minute it’s to help the child! If that were true the whole system would have been run differently and those within the system would not be incentivised to line their own pockets! The likes of Narey gives the results that are wanted or he wouldn’t be asked! There are some people devoid of empathy and see only the profits on a spreadsheet not the names of the children!

The charity children screaming to be heard I run and pay for this from my £142 or 43 a week pension and from the pension I also have to pay all house hold bills pay for my old car and eat, and yet this charity does more than any of the million pound charities, I also have researched into the system big time and one bit of research being that every kid in care is insured amazing the amount of people who contacted me just on this one issue alone, but boy there is a lot going on “In a child’s best interest” sorry “In a child’s best corruption” good news is that many people who have contacted the help line received the correct support and many won their kids back, So what does that tell you lot in the House of Lords and the House of Commons and the charities, I will tell you, and that being you don’t always need money to help a child, so give back your millions instead of sending it all off shore and help the abused kids.

Many people have expressed their concern at the adverse influence that insurance companies can exert on any inquiry or report into complaints about children in the care of local authorities—though that also applies to other areas such as churches, hospitals and so on. This influence, or cover-up, has been used in many previous inquiries—I am talking about the Kincora children’s home in Ireland, the Cartrefle inquiry in Wales, the Jillings inquiry in Wales and the Waterhouse report in Wales—preventing exposure of the problems, often redacting vital information and so failing publicly to uncover the truth for the alleged victims.
The Jillings report commissioned at the time laid bare the north Wales child abuse scandal. It found a child care system in which physical and sexual violence were common, from beatings and bullying to indecent assault and rape. Children who complained of abuse were not believed or were punished for making false allegations. The report stated that the number of children who were abused was not clear, but at least 12 former residents were found to have died from unnatural causes.
While we wait to see what comes out of the Macur review, I fear that the Goddard inquiry will not have access to that uncompleted review and may not have access to all previous unredacted local authority inquiry reports.
