Interesting research items, news pieces and more, floating just below the radar:

  • Economists find rare empirical evidence of love in unique marriage survey – Really worth a read. The article is a bit dense (we got a headache trying to work out the terminology), and the writer should really have used simpler language, but the insight is interesting.
  • Young people’s guide to staying put – information for young people on staying with your foster carers until 21.
  • Family Court magistrate suspended after objecting to gay parents

Question It!

19 Monday Jan 2015

Welcome to your Monday and our question of the week, which focuses on adoption and fostering.

In today’s Guardian Online, Caroline Selkirk, chief executive of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), writes about the progress and the problems with adoption and the need to make placements ‘for life’, especially for children she calls ‘difficult to place’.

She cites several things which she feels need to be looked at, and these include: “challenges to adoption, the revised framework for long-term foster care, the further development of special guardianship and the provision of effective support including financial help for carers.”

Our question this week then, is this: do you agree with Caroline’s list?
