Under the banner of ‘all human beings are born free and equal’ there is a post outlining that the Lords Committee holds its final evidence session on violence against women and young girls. But what of violence against men and young boys?
DV is NOT and has never been gender specific. Before we can start dealing with the causes of DV we need to remove the gender bias that is so often perceived or assumed. Credible studies show that it is not – thus, let’s not continue to promulgate domestic violence against one gender, by portraying it as gender specific against the other.
Should we perhaps be saying ‘all human beings are born free and equal – although some are more equal than others’?

Councillor rejects claims by Cornwall he presents risk to chldren
In a statement issued on Friday (21 November), Cornwall said it had received information in October raising “serious child protection concerns” relating to Cllr Alex Folkes.
“As a result of the information which came to light during this investigation, the Leader of Cornwall Council, John Pollard, decided that Councillor Folkes could not continue to carry out his Cabinet responsibilities and demanded that he either resigned with immediate effect or he would remove him from his role as the Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources,” the authority said.
Cllr Folkes, who has described the claims as “outrageous”, resigned on 4 November 2014.

Foster care abuse claims and the Woodland duty
Whilst acknowledging the ever-increasing burden placed on local authorities, HHJ Godsmark remarked that the more compelling argument is that victims of child abuse should have legal recourse in the civil courts for the harm caused to them.
“Whether the perpetrator is a local authority employee or foster parent chosen by the local authority should not make a difference. Where a local authority takes control of the child, even inadvertently, in the hands of an abusive foster parent it is fair, just and reasonable for that child to be able to look to the local authority for redress.”
Accordingly he ruled that a non delegable duty of care was owed by a local authority to a child placed by it with foster parents.
