Interveners in Public Family Law Cases – Researching Reform for Jordans Family Law

05 Thursday Jun 2014

For our column over at Jordans this month, we have chosen to write about interveners in The Family Court and the rules and regulations surrounding them, as well as the ongoing lack of clarity and transparency the scant guidelines effect. The article is designed to provide information on who interveners are, what they can do and how they impact the cases they wish to join.

This piece can be read in conjunction with our latest post on Researching Reform about Dr Hibbert, who has himself in an unprecedented move asked to be joined as a third-party intervener in a case which has garnered national media coverage.

Queen’s Speech Confirms Creation of Criminal Sanctions for Child Neglect

05 Thursday Jun 2014

In her speech to the nation yesterday, the Queen outlined details for extending the law on child neglect, which would include making emotional abuse a criminal offence.

Whilst we believe that child neglect does indeed include emotional abuse and does need to be taken seriously, we do not feel that criminalising the issue is the right way to tackle this problem, at this time. It would seem that the Association of Directors of Children’s Services and The College of Social Work also feel the same way, and we share many of their concerns.

If you’d like to read a well written summary on this latest development, do check out Community Care’s piece. We are adding some other interesting sources below, too:
