Yes, I think that all Judges should only do a short stint after training. As regards Family Court Judges I think the whole family court system should be dissolved! Its not fit for purpose! There should be family preservation. Anyone who has committed criminal acts against children should be dealt with in criminal court in front of a jury.

Hi Natasha,
Having just watched a tv program about benefits caps I was struck by the comment of a lady being forced to move outside of London as rents were higher in Brent and cheaper in Birmingham. Reluctant to move for all sorts of reasons she stated that the council housing officer said she would contact social services who would take her children! This was said in reference to the consequences if she refused to move! I find that abhorrent but, if this was true, the housing council officer seems to think this was the norm! The programme was set against a background of politician’s promises that there would not be ethnic cleansing in London!

How awful, D. I think for many years now, people dealing with families believe they have a right to either be judgemental or use the children as devices of a kind. Recently an judge cut a woman’s maintenance award for daring to criticise her husband – I make no comment on whether or not her conduct was appropriate, however the judge reduced her award because of her conduct during proceedings, which I find irrational and ridiculous. Too much like playing God.

Personally I do not believe Judges are fit for purpose! How can a family court judge dole out the judgements affecting all of the families lives, at least 3 generations and sometimes forever on such flimsy “crimes?” If a family member has harmed a child in a serious way then that person should be dealt with in criminal court, as they are. So what exactly is the role of a family court judge? The family court is misnamed, it leaves families shattered!
