The Department for Education, Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, Department for Communities and Local Government, Department for Work & Pensions, Department of Health, Home Office and Ministry of Justice, have collaborated to offer young people leaving care, support. Today, they have published details of this scheme.
Support for care leavers will be given for issues surrounding housing, health and education, to ease the transition into living independently, once they have left care.
The press release tells us, amongst other things that:
- over 1,100 care leavers aged 16 or over are now living in independent accommodation without any formalised support
- 34% of care leavers aged 19 or over are not in education, employment or training
- just 6% of care leavers aged 19 or over went on to higher education
This initiative follows the Care Leaver’s Charter, launched last year, and makes up a series of reforms aimed at helping young care leavers ease into adulthood with the support they need.
The document runs to 25 pages, and tells us that around 10,000 young people leave care in England each year aged between 16-18 years old, and that the support available for these young adults is currently patchy and in need of improvement. The document is highly aspirational, and aims to offer care leavers with information and opportunities to settle into new accommodation, gain skills, be informed of their rights and seek successful employment.
There are a lot of interesting thoughts and ideas in this document, from mentor schemes to data collection – well worth a read. And, we hope, able to be implemented.
Sociopathic Parenting
by James Kimmel, Ph.D.“The societies for the prevention of cruelty to babies and children concern themselves only with the grossest sort of abuse. Our society must be helped to see the gravity of the crime against infants that is today considered normal treatment.”- Jean Liedloff, The Continuum Concept1 http://fathersunionaustralia.com/wp/sociopathic-parenting/ Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2013 14:17:36 +0000 To: fathersunionaustralia@hotmail.com

Just one of thousands of kids in care who knows when he leaves the prison he was sent into by a judge who may have a stake in the foster/adoption agency with this child telling the judge where he wanted to live and with who and was ignored by all only to be told at the age of 11 by the social worker “when you leave the foster care aged 18 we will give you your own flat” would a normal parent tell a kid when you are 18 you are out of here, where is the stability for a young child alone living in fear with strangers this is one of many kids in care who knows that they have a loving family one day to return to with security and love, so why are the social workers telling a kid indirectly you are not ever going home, it is time that the governments who sit and talk get paid mega bucks to debate on some thing they know nothing of only hear say from the so called 1,000s of different departments set up “In a child’s best interest” only to continue to make up more ways to make money from kids and to produce more jobs, the answers is as I have suggested for the knew children and families bill is that from day one of a child being taken into care that by an independant legal team with meetings with social workers and court experts that all assements are recorded for the courts so to stop hear say and when a child is of an age to leave foster care then this is the time more so that social workers and families discuss the future home for a child, it is not for the social workers to take complete charge by telling 11 year olds where they will end up living, and that is not always in a flat it is on the streets begging so much for social workers who think they are the gods of the planet and the governments allow them to do as they want because why should the governments listen to the nations voices ahahahahha NO MONEY IN WHAT THEY SAY Yes let the kids end up on the streets to live because we will have by the social workers and court experts 1.000s of more kids coming into the money market, and boy when the millions of immigrants arrive in 2014/5 there will be more care homes set up and more foster and adoptions AND MORE 1.000S OF KIDS TAKEN INTO CARE MONEY MONEY MONEY.
