Often accused of being an ultra conservative country, America’s recent Gallup Poll on the general population’s views on infidelity, divorce and other issues like suicide, are more than a little surprising, in parts.
And it does look like the poll has gone out of its way (literally) to source views from across the spectrum (click on this link for the article discussing the poll in detail and scroll to the bottom if you’d like to see the report in full). Views were sampled from 1,535 adults aged 18 or over, from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with questions being asked about the moral acceptability of things like birth control (91% thought this was acceptable), to married men and women having an affair (with an astonishing 91% viewing this as unacceptable – an astonishing figure, given that another survey in America recently showed that a whopping %74 of men and 68% of women said that they would have an affair, if they never got caught: you do the math….).
Other stats of note included a greater acceptance of divorce, unmarried sex and gay and lesbian relationships, with a markedly more conservative attitude towards abortion, polygamy, human cloning and right at the top of the list, extra marital affairs.
A fascinating poll; if you have a Jammy Dodger and some PG tips to spare, well worth a browse….
