Having heard the State’s closing submissions, this afternoon saw a rebuttal from Gerard Durcan SC, whose argument was based on the impractical nature of the law as it stands on issues relating to surrogacy; he also challenged the State’s interpretation of legislation which was earlier cited as being definitive proof that the legal mother of any child is defined by who gives birth to the child, not the genetic legacy of that child.

This fascinating case has now concluded and the judge, Mr. Justice Henry Abbott,  is scheduled to give a verdict next month.
